10-Minute Cottage Workout: No Equipment Needed

No equipment. No gym. Just you, a patch of grass, and 10 minutes.

Summer in the Blue Mountains is meant for slowing down — mornings on the dock, hikes on local trails, beach days, evenings around the fire. But let's be honest: summer routines look different. Between vacations, cottage weekends, kids' activities, and packed schedules, "fitting in a workout" can feel like one more thing on the list.

Here's the good news: staying active doesn't require a full gym session. Sometimes 10 minutes — squeezed in before breakfast or while the coffee brews — is all it takes to feel strong, energized, and ready for whatever the day has planned.

Quick summary: 5 exercises, 40 seconds on / 20 seconds off, 2 rounds through. Total time: 10 minutes.

Your 10-Minute Cottage Workout

Complete each move for 40 seconds, rest for 20, then move to the next. Once you've made it through all 5, catch your breath and go through the circuit one more time.

1. Squats - How to Squat

Builds strength in your legs and core — the foundation for everything from hauling coolers to hiking trails.

  • Easier: Reduce your range of motion or slow the movement down.

  • Harder: Add a jump or hold at the bottom of each rep.

2. Push-Ups - How to do a Push-up

A classic for a reason — builds upper-body strength fast.

  • Easier: Drop to your knees or use an elevated surface like a picnic table or bench.

  • Harder: Slow each rep down and focus on control.

3. Mountain Climbers - How to do a Mountain Climber

Gets your heart rate up while working your core.

  • Easier: Slow the pace, bringing one knee in at a time.

  • Harder: Pick up the pace and push yourself.

4. Reverse Lunges - How to do a Reverse Lunge

Strengthens your legs and builds the balance and stability you need for uneven trails and docks.

  • Easier: Hold onto something nearby for balance.

  • Harder: Add a knee drive at the top of each rep.

5. Plank - How to do a Plank

Finish strong. A strong core supports everything — paddle boarding, carrying groceries, chasing the kids.

  • Easier: Drop to your knees.

  • Harder: Try shoulder taps or hold longer.

That's it — 10 minutes, and you're free to get back to the water.

Something Is Always Better Than Nothing

A workout doesn't need to be an hour to count. A 10-minute walk, a quick strength circuit, a swim in the lake, a stretch on the dock — it all adds up. The goal isn't to squeeze fitness into every spare moment of summer. It's to keep movement part of the things you already love doing.
