Introducing a New Healthy Habit: Start Small, Stay Consistent

One step at a time for a healthier routine.

As we all know, building new habits can be tough, especially when trying to change multiple aspects of your routine at once. That’s why, this week, I decided to introduce one small, manageable change that’s been surprisingly effective — and I’m excited to share it with you.

I’m all about starting small and focusing on consistency when it comes to healthy habits. After all, setting ourselves up for success means making small shifts that feel sustainable rather than overwhelming.

The New Habit: Apple Cider Vinegar in the Morning
So, here’s the habit I added to my mornings: one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water before I eat or have my coffee.

Seems simple, right? But here’s why it’s been so effective:

  1. It wakes up my digestion. Apple cider vinegar is known to aid in digestion and boost metabolism — two things I’m always working to improve.

  2. It helps me start the day hydrated. As someone who struggles to drink enough water, I’ve found that starting my day with a refreshing cup of water (with ACV) makes it easier to hit my hydration goals.

  3. It’s part of my morning routine. And that’s the key — when I pair a new healthy habit with something I already do every day, like waking up and drinking water, it becomes second nature. It’s no longer something I have to think about — it just happens.

One Habit at a Time
I’ve always found that focusing on just one new habit at a time makes it easier to integrate into my daily routine. We tend to overestimate how much we can handle at once, so starting small can lead to bigger changes over time.

Now, if you feel ready to take on more than one new habit at a time, go for it! But if you’re someone who thrives with focus and gradual changes, taking one habit step-by-step can help build lasting success.

Why It Works
Adding a new habit that ties directly into something you already do every day (like having water in the morning) makes it easier to remember, and more importantly, it sticks. Plus, when you feel the positive effects — in this case, better digestion and more hydration — it creates motivation to keep going.

A Reminder for All of Us

When you focus on creating a habit that aligns with your goals, remember to be kind to yourself along the way. Healthy habits take time, and it's about the journey, not perfection.

And if you’re thinking of adding a new healthy habit to your day, start small and see how it feels! You may just be surprised at how a simple change can make a difference.
