Why Swim Diapers Are Essential — And Why You Shouldn’t Rely on Them Completely
Let’s keep the pool safe, clean and welcoming for everyone.
At Lemonade Collective, our saltwater pool is one of the sweetest parts of the space — a place for movement, learning, laughter and connection. Whether you’re floating through laps, splashing with your little one, or taking your first swim lesson (which is our favourite), the pool is where memories are made.
But with all that joy comes a little responsibility — especially for our tiniest swimmers. That’s where swim diapers come in.
What Are Swim Diapers — and Why Are They Necessary?
Unlike regular diapers, swim diapers are designed to hold in solids, not liquids. That means they won’t swell up in water (like regular diapers do), and they provide a physical barrier to help prevent accidents from entering the pool.
The purpose?
To protect the health and comfort of everyone in the water by preventing contamination and potential closures due to accidents.
Disposable vs. Reusable: What’s the Difference?
There are two types of swim diapers, and both have their place:
Disposable Swim Diapers: Convenient, single-use (not great for the environment) and easy for quick changes.
Reusable Swim Diapers: Eco-friendly, adjustable and often better-fitting with stronger elastic to contain solids.
Sweet tip: Reusable swim diapers often provide a snugger, more reliable seal — but should be checked frequently for fit.
But Here’s the Important Part…
Swim diapers are not foolproof.
Even the best-fitting swim diaper can leak — especially if:
It’s the wrong size
It’s not changed frequently
It’s worn too loosely
Your child has a tummy bug or gastrointestinal illness
That’s why we kindly ask parents and caregivers to be extra mindful. If your child isn’t feeling well, it’s best to skip pool time until they’re fully recovered — even if they’re wearing a swim diaper.
Why It Matters
One small accident in the pool can lead to:
Full pool closures (sometimes up to 24 hours)
Extensive cleaning and water treatment
Disrupted schedules for other members
And yes, a not-so-sweet experience for everyone involved
At Lemonade Collective, we show up for each other — in big ways and small. Using swim diapers and staying aware of their limits is just one more way to keep LC clean, safe and sweet for all.
A Final Reminder
We’re here to support you. If you’re not sure which swim diaper is right for your little one, or how to use it properly, our team is happy to help. We also recommend checking the fit right before entering the pool — just to be safe. We also have sing-use diapers at the front desk, as we know that sometimes not everything gets into the diaper bag.
Because when we take care of each other, we make life (and swim time) a whole lot sweeter. 🍋
